The festive tables of Poles are full of traditional dishes that unite generations. Although there is no strict canon of Christmas dishes, most of us at the thought of Christmas starters almost smell and taste… vegetable salad – permanently inscribed on the mandatory list of dishes. We have a special fondness for a salad prepared as it was done by grandma, mum or aunt…

Ingredients for vegetable salad:

  • 6 carrots
  • 2 parsley (root)
  • 1/2 of celery
  • 1 apple (sour)
  • 6 pickled cucumbers
  • 2 onions
  • 6 boiled eggs
  • 1 can of green peas
  • 4 tbs of mayonnaise
  • 4 tbs of natural yoghurt
  • Salt and pepper to taste

  1. Wash and cook vegetables for a vegetable salad: carrots, parsley and celery (be careful not to overcook!). 
  2. When the vegetables have cooled down, peel and cut into small cubes. 
  3. Drain cucumbers and also cut into small cubes. 
  4. Chop the onion, eggs and apple finely. 
  5. Put everything into a large bowl. Add 1 can of drained green peas. 
  6. In a separate bowl, mix mayonnaise and natural yoghurt (if you prefer more sauce, boldly increase the volume by mixing both ingredients 1 to 1).
  7. Then add the sauce to the vegetables and mix thoroughly, season with salt and pepper to taste. Transfer the salad into a decorative bowl and decorate with: radishes, parsley, dill, peppers, peas, eggs, carrots, or anything else you have on hand or in your mind. Let your imagination run free! 
  8. Put a salad in the fridge so that all ingredients are “combined”.
