Hello again! Those who know me are aware of my passion for everything Korean. And it is not all about k-beauty, k-pop or k-dramas (which are great and I do sincerely recommend it!) for me. I discovered how amazing and flavorful Korean cuisine truly is. I was planning to fly to Korea this spring to not only witness the wonderful cherry blossom but also take some cooking classes and see how the Koreans cook their famous dishes such as kimchi, kimbap or fried chicken. But alas I was not able due to the situation that is happening right now in the World. However, that doesn’t stop me to show you some amazing recipes from Korean cuisine. And the first one in this series is gonna be the Korean soy chicken drumsticks.

They are amazing! When I first cooked it for my mom she said “I’m full but just for you I’m gonna try one for you” (what a sacrifice mom 🙂 ). And then she ate 4 pieces! She loved it and I know you will love it too!

KOREAN SOY CHICKEN DRUMSTICKS

Just as a side note I have decided to start this Korean series to show you what I love about Korean food and cooking. Soon, I will show you how to cook rice and make the perfect kimchi (at least for my taste buds it is perfect :P) and how you can incorporate it in other dishes. I will not forget the desserts either so you can expect some rice cakes and Korean pancakes. And many, many more!!! So stay tuned but now let’s get back to business and see how to make those perfect Korean soy chicken drumsticks.

So what are you waiting for? Let’s get to work!

  • 2 tbsp oil

  • 1 tbsp of plum wine
  • 1 tbsp of sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp of minced garlic

Method:

  1. Wash the chicken drumsticks and with a sharp knife stab each chicken drumstick about 4 times (do it anywhere in a meat part).
  2. Soak it in milk for an hour.
  3. Mix all ingredients for a marinade except sesame seeds. And set it aside.
  4. When the hour is up, drain the milk from the chicken drumsticks.
  5. In a wok or large frying pan heat up the oil on medium/high heat and close the meat (meaning fry it on all side but do not let the meat cook all the way through). It should take you about 3 minutes.
  6. Add the marinade to the frying pan with chicken drumsticks and put on the lid. And lower the heat to medium. Cooking it for about 15 minutes.
  7. Then take away the lid and if the sauce is reduced by about a half it is ready to serve if not fry it for few more minutes without the lid.
  8. When the sauce is reduced take it off the stove add the sesame seeds and stir it gently so sesame seeds can cover the chicken pieces evenly.
  9. And voila perfect soy chicken drumsticks are ready to be served.

Of course, the best way to serve soy chicken drumsticks is with some good all plain white rice! And we all know how our Asian friends love rice :). Now we have for you a recipe on how to cook rice the perfect way – so it is nice and sticky and you can use chopsticks to eat it! Click here.
