Grandpa’s jam is really a cherry jam. At my house, it was named so by my godsons who ate it in huge quantities, especially with pancakes (here you can see our recipes for various pancakes).

What else I have to emphasize is that this jam was not entirely done by “grandpa”, or at least he was not the only one making it. In the quantities we make it in my family home, it is a job for at least two people if not more. And this is due to the fact that to make cherry jam perfect – cherries need to be pitted!

Whoever pitted cherries knows that this is not an easy matter. Every time after pitting I look like I have smallpox – my face is full of small burgundy dots made by cherry juice :P.

But don’t let this discourage you to make our Grandpa’s jam. This fight with cherries is worth the effort because at the end you get delicious cherry jam. In addition, as an incentive, you will have a delicious cherry juice that you can use to make cocktails or other delicacies!

Well, let’s get to the recipe!

INGREDIENTS FOR Grandpa’s jam – 0.5L JAR:

  • 2 kg of cherry – pitted
  • 3 tsp of fruit pectin
  • sugar to taste (about 5-6 tbsp)

Method:

  1. Heat the oven to 120 degrees Celsius. Put the jars and lids separately in the preheated oven and hold them for about 20 minutes – so that the jars and caps are scalded and pasteurized.
  2. Put cherries into a pot with a thick bottom and cook the fruit on medium heat, stirring constantly. Keep doing this until the fruits are soft and let the juice run.
  3. We recommend pouring the juice into a scalded jar and use it later in other recipes.
  4. Then add fruit pectin and sugar and mix well so that the freshly added ingredients will mix in evenly. Pectin will make the jam thicken. Cook for about 5 minutes.
  5. Pour the finished jam (it will be quite liquid) into hot jars. Turn it and set it upside down and allow it to cool.
