The chocolate chip cookies are the true American classic! And the best of the best in our (CRAVEmonkey team) opinion. Also, these sweet treats have a long story as the chocolate chip cookies have been invented over 80 years ago. And since then the chocolate chip cookies are one of the most adored sweet treats all around the world.
We do not know for sure, how it happened. Some say, that the chocolate fell into the dough by accident, others say that the cook ran out of nuts and replaced them with chopped chocolate. But we know for sure who and when made those cookies for the first time.
The history of chocolate chip cookies
Ruth Wakefield, who ran the popular Toll House restaurant in Whitman, Massachusetts, with her husband, Kenneth, from 1930 to 1967, brought the Toll House Chocolate Crunch Cookie into being in the late nineteen-thirties. The recipe, which has been tweaked over the ensuing decades, made its first appearance in print in the 1938 edition of Wakefield’s “Tried and True” cookbook. Created as an accompaniment to ice cream, the chocolate-chip cookie quickly became so celebrated that Marjorie Husted (a.k.a. Betty Crocker) featured it on her radio program. On March 20, 1939, Wakefield gave Nestlé the right to use her cookie recipe and the Toll House name. In a bargain that rivals Peter Minuit’s purchase of Manhattan, the price was a dollar—a dollar that Wakefield later said she never received (though she was reportedly given free chocolate for life and was also paid by Nestlé for work as a consultant).

The main ingredients for those cookies are love and chocolate 🙂 And once you tried them you just can not get enough of them.
Ingredients for chocolate chip cookies:
- 300 g of chocolate (100 g of white chocolate, 100 g of milk chocolate and 100 g of dark chocolate)
- 300 g of flour
- 200 g of butter
- 100 g of walnuts
- 80 g of brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp of vanilla sugar
- 1 tsp of vanilla extract
- 2/3 tsp of baking soda or baking powder
- a sprinkle of salt
Method:
Making the dough:
- First, pour the flour into a bowl, add soda, vanilla sugar and extract and mix it all.
- Next, in other bowl put the butter with brown sugar and mix it for 5 minutes. Add eggs and continue mixing it all together for another 5 minutes.
- After that add the flour mixture from the first bowl to the second and mix it together.
- Now chop the chocolate bars into small pieces, chop the walnuts as well, add it to the dough and mix it carefully with a spoon.
Baking the cookies:
- First of all, heat up the oven to 180 degrees Celcius.
- Next on a baking paper-lined tray put the dough with a spoon (each like a small ice-cream ball). Make sure to leave enough space between cookies. You can gently squash each ball so that it looks more like a cookie.
- Now bake for around 15 minutes or until the cookies get brown.
- While the first baking tray with cookies is baking, you get ready the second one and change them, and so on, depending on how many cookies you get. You can place around 8-10 cookies on each tray.
- After cookies are out of the oven you should make sure that they cool down, as they are very fragile while warm. The cookies should be crunchy on the outside and gummy inside.
- Cookies are done! We gave you a large portion in the recipe as we know that these cookies disappear in no time. You can divide the ingredients in half to make fewer cookies, but we would recommend doubling the portion if you are expecting guests.
Yummmy! Believe us these are gonna be the best cookies ever!!! Your family and friends will be asking for more all the time. If someone asks you, what is your secret ingredient, remember, that it is love. Just add a sprinkle of love to the cookies 😉
