Baked broccoli casserole is a very simple dish but in its simplicity the secret is hidden. The delicious combination of broccoli, pasta, bechamel sauce topped with cheese is just magical. We love the flavour of garlic in that dish as in our eyes it completes it but it is totally optional.
This dish was one of my favourite dishes that my mom was making when I was a little girl. And one of the first recipes I have learned to make myself. So let me show you how is done!
Below you have the full recipe for the baked broccoli casserole.
Ingredients for Baked broccoli casserole:
- 500g of Broccoli
- 500g of pasta (we used fusilli but any other of the short-cut pasta will be good)
- Bechamel
- 250g of grated cheese (you can use cheddar, gouda, mozzarella or any other cheese of this sort)
- salt
- 2 tbsp of powdered garlic (optional)
Method:
- Wash and cut the broccoli into small pieces and cook them in boiling and lightly salted water for 3 minutes. Then drain the broccoli and set aside.
- Cook pasta according to the instruction on the package – aim for al dente. Then drain the pasta and set aside.
- Prepare the bechamel sauce. We have the perfect and easy recipe for you here. As we love garlic flavour in our dishes we are adding the garlic powder to the sauce but that is an optional step.
- Preheat oven to 180 degrees.
- In the casserole dish layer firstly with pasta, then with broccoli and top it off with bechamel sauce. Now depending on your casserole dish you can stop here and add the grated cheese on top or if your casserole dish is deeper you can repeat the layers once more and then add the cheese on top.
- Bake the dish for about 20 minutes or until the cheese on top is nice and golden.
Bon appétit!
